Lanzhou, located on the banks of the Yellow River, it is a key regional transportation hub, connecting areas further west by rail to the eastern half of the country. Historically, it has been a major link on the Northern Silk Road and it stands to become a major hub on the New Eurasian Land Bridge. The city is also a center for heavy industry and petrochemical industry.

兰州市，别称金城，地处黄土高原、青藏高原与内蒙古高原交汇处，南北两侧为祁连山余脉。黄河在市境西南与湟水汇合，向东横贯市区，兰州城位于河谷盆地之中。全市总面积13,192平方千米，人口4359446，市人民政府驻城关区。兰州是中国陆域版图的几何中心，中国人民解放军西部战区陆军机关驻地，一带一路重要节点城市，中国重要的铁路枢纽，包兰、兰新、兰青、陇海、兰渝、成兰等铁路交汇于此。
